British Asians and Pets

as many are aware there is a large asian 'community' in great britain, indian, pakistani and bangladeshi.

in my line of work i have been into the homes of many but only today did it occur to me that i have never and i mean never met an asian family with pets.

am i just not aware or is it something that isn't done, in particular with the muslim 'community'.. thanks.

I believe it was in the book, "Reading Lolita In Tehran," that I read a very strange belief about chickens. In Tehran, the women will get assaulted if they show the slightest amount of skin, because it will cause men to think unclean thoughts...poor little weaklings. Because of the demonizing of women, men have turned to other "animals" for sexual gratification. So one edict addresses chickens. Some men expressed concern as to what to do with a chicken with which they have had sex.

Since it is unclean, they are not supposed to sell it to a neighbor. This raises the age-old question, who is a neighbor. As it turns out, a neighbor is someone within a certain amount of blocks of your house (I don't remember how many exactly). You can not sell the chicken to anyone inside that radius, because he is your neighbor.

But, you can sell the abused chicken to someone who lives outside that radius, because he is not your neighbor.

You owe it to both these idiots to report them to their management - at the highest possible level - and explain that you are being subjected to religious discrimination by their employees and that this discrimination is going to have a negative effect on their business because you are going to tell people about it! Then tell your neighbors and write some letters to the local media.

I'm a practicing JW, and would appreciate if you would do this. These totally unacceptable actions bring reproach on all of us. There needs to be consequences.

The call came around 8 pm last night

i called out to my soon to be ex, who now lives in different part of the house and told him to pick up the phone as it was his call.

the sister and brother in law had just landed home from the district convention!!

For out of Zion law will go forth, and the word of Jehovah out of Jerusalem. 4 And he will certainly render judgment among the nations and set matters straight respecting many peoples. And they will have to beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning shears. Nation will not lift up sword against nation, neither will they learn war anymore.

According to the WTBTS, Jehovah renders judgement at a future time. I'm am in no way a Leolaia or Narkissos, but I hope this helps.

Man Not Woman Created In God's Image

a few days ago i read a post the listed wt references that stated man was created in god's imge but woman wassn't.

of course i don't agree with this and neither does my wife.

i am unable to find the post and i need the references to convince my wife of this sexist wt teaching.

One of the organization's main supports for discriminating against women is that Genesis calls her a (Heb. ezer) "helpmeet," which THEY presume to be inferior. However, notice how many times Jehovah calls HIMSELF a helpmeet...sometimes even OUR helpmeet.

i can't think of any myself, no doctors, lawyers, business owners (i mean medium to big business, not just one guy cleaning windows, etc).

Yes. An elder in our congregation studied with a medical student, who went on to become a surgeon. Post baptism, he and his wife wwew invited to serve at Patterson. The society paid his medical school loans and built a beautiful LARGE home for them near Patterson.

My husband had a medical doctor in his congegation in Las Vegas. This brother married the city overseer's daughter, who was much younger than he. Several years later, they were disfellowshipped for apostacy (blood related), however, subsequent to that, they "repented" and were invited to serve at Brooklyn.

In my congregation we have a female lawyer and a sister who is a Captain for a major international airline. She also holds the distinction of being the first female Air Force pilot to fly supersonic.

I find this thread interesting from a sociological standpoint. It occurs to me that some people leave the organization, but they do not cease exhibiting the Jehovah's Witness mentality. Most here are aware I am a practicing JW that does not believe 1914, FDS, etc. One of the things I despise about the vast majority of JWs is their arrogance, lack of compassion and judgemental attitude.

Pioneers have always seemed to me to be the most emotionally unstable individuals in the congregation. Most likely, because of low self-esteem, they can't seem to do enough for Jehovah to convice themselves that Jehovah likes them. They always seem angry because others are not living their lives like them, whether these people be inside or outside the congregation. If you transferred them to the workplace, they would be the 80 hour-a-week workoholics that get angry because everyone else 'isn't working as hard as them.'

As evidence by this thread, some people on this discussion board still have the "pioneer spirit."

1914 explanation

when was the last time that the society gave an explanation about 1914?

for years now it's always that god's kingdom was established in the heavens in 1914 and 1918 jesus directed his attention toward rutherford.

no more trying to give historical facts or dates why they came up with 1914.. is this what you have noticed?

Actually, this weeks study of the Bible Teach book discusses 1914. We are asked to refer to a section in the Appendix and the calculations therein.

both decisions were favorable to the plaintiff.

Nope, never heard of it. ick. Still, I thought even if there was some kind of claim to consent, aren't sexual relations with a minor still considered 'statuatory rape'?

Most jurisdictions are not interested in having to arrest and process through the judicial system "kids having sex." Therefore, most have exceptions for consent as long as there is not too much of a age difference between the parties.

Is there such a thing as a 'consenting minor'? I guess I wasn't aware that it would ever be ok for a minor and an adult to have sexual relations. Is there such a viewpoint from a legal point of view? A 17 year old and an 18 year old.
